LMS Director of Platform Infrastructure and Administration, Bob Borelli, makes things happen and allows others to do the same. Clearly, the job is comprehensive, but organization and constant training make it possible.

He’s used to multi-faceted operations and arrived at LMS two years ago to do platform work on a project for our partner in the cruise industry. Originally from Worcester, MA, Bob comes to LMS after 20 years at a global IT corporation, eventually concentrating his time on VMware.

“I oversee the day-to-day operations that involve our cloud environment and the physical equipment issued to our teams. I also assist in the decisions associated with vendor contracts and relationships. Lastly, I help ensure the infrastructure and architecture satisfies our company’s short and long-term needs.”

Constant Training

Platform administrators automate infrastructure management and enable developers to do their jobs from a centrally managed platform. In some cases, these include LMS utilizes environments, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, and Kubernetes.

As a director, Bob monitors system security and updates and assures company-wide best practices. Always on top of technology, he is a certified AWS cloud practitioner and assists the DevOps team in multiple capacities.

His role evolves daily, requiring trips to our Florida offices, constant training, and education.

“My week is typically split between our AWS user’s requests and other administrative needs. I work closely with the system administrators to ensure operations run smoothly and assist whenever needed. I also work with the teams on cost savings for the company. It involves continuous monitoring of our vendors and adjusting for growth and reduction of licensing and services.”

Tech, Trains, and Automobiles

AWS certifications demonstrate proficiency in using AWS services and tools to develop and deploy cloud-based applications and infrastructure. His current certification is the first step to becoming a certified AWS architect.

Bob is one of the few cloud practitioners who has driven a train (one of his first jobs) or worked in a pit crew. He’s worked on an IMSA race car pit crew at various tracks across North America on weekends for more than a decade.

“Loving cars all my life and being close to a couple of tracks, I knew a couple of people in the crews,” he explains. “I volunteered, and they liked my work.”

He still lives with his daughters in Worcester and works remotely, yet he regularly visits Florida to work with the team.

“It’s a breath of fresh air coming from a big corporation to a smaller company like LMS,” he said. “People matter, and it’s a great atmosphere to be a part of.”
