Tennis Legend Martina Navratilova joined Hologic, Inc. Chairman, President, and CEO Steve MacMillan to ring the Nasdaq opening bell on October 3 to mark the beginning of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is the 16th time that Hologic (Nasdaq: HOLX) has had the honor.
“At Hologic, we are champions in the fight against breast cancer,” MacMillan announced at the outset of the ceremony. “Our innovative, market-leading Genius® 3D Mammography™ exam detects more invasive cancers than traditional mammograms while also reducing false positives. Our comprehensive portfolio of products enables us to stand with women throughout their entire continuum of breast care, from screening to diagnosis, to surgery, and ultimately recovery. No company in the world does more to fight breast cancer than Hologic.”
They were joined by more than 20 Hologic employees and Women’s Tennis Association President Mickey Lawler to celebrate a multi-year partnership between Hologic and the WTA to champion women’s health and equality.
“As a woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram, I know firsthand how important breast cancer screening is,” Navratilova said. “While progress has been made, Hologic’s research shows that far too many women are not getting the screenings they deserve.”
“We are honored to stand alongside the women of the WTA in recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month as we continue to underscore the importance of preventive care and annual mammography screening,” MacMillan also stated. “Our recently released findings from the second year of the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index highlight the unfortunate reality that more than 2 billion women worldwide weren’t tested for any type of cancer, including breast cancer, in the past 12 months, making the work we do to increase awareness even more important.”
Throughout October, Hologic and the WTA will bring attention to women’s health during tournaments, special events, and public campaigns.
